    Students enrolled in a full-time language program at either a college or university can sign up for a free ticket to attend WorldSpeak. Faculty of these programs are also invited at no charge. There will be a job fair with some of the most important employers in the Canadian language industry, so be sure to bring your CV. 

    When registering, choose the free tickets available based on how you want to attend - virtual or onsite. 

    Students must provide a student number, as well as the name of their institution. 

    For onsite attendance, lunch is not included with the free ticket, but you can choose to purchase the same box lunch other attendees will be receiving for $20.00 at checkout.

    Proposals are welcomed for the WorldSpeak conference, taking place May 23-24 at Glendon College, York University. The Canadian Language Industry Association has been putting on conferences for members for over 20 years, and this year it is throwing open the doors to the world to showcase the Canadian language industry on the global stage. 


    The inaugural edition of WorldSpeak will focus on the translator's and the interpreter’s profession. We'll delve into topics such as rates, the importance of qualifications in this field, opportunities, and the challenges arising from new technologies. We’ll also be discussing how this evolving landscape will impact translators' rates. 


    CLIA would be happy to receive proposals from private industry as well as academia. 


    Themes include:

    -Business development

    -M&A

    -Future of the language industry

    -Adaptation of language education to current landscape


    The deadline for proposal submissions is March 31. We will provide feedback to everyone by mid-April regarding the final agenda, which will include the accepted proposals.

    Business is now global, and so is the Canadian Language Industry Association’s annual conference. 2024 marks the inaugural year for WorldSpeak, the new name for our annual conference which propels our gathering onto the international stage.

    The elevation begins with where it is being hosted - Glendon College at York University in Toronto. Glendon College is recognized as the official Southern Ontario Centre of Excellence for French-language and bilingual postsecondary education, as well as being home to the Canadian Language Museum

    The event will take place in the spacious auditorium of the Centre of Excellence on May 24, with a welcome reception and gala dinner on May 23 at the Canadian Language Museum. 

    WorldSpeak 2024 will mark the beginning of an annual collective gathering of academia, business leaders, and language industry rock stars on the international stage.

    Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Language Industry Association (CLIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished individuals to key leadership roles within our organization. Lola Bendana has been named as the Chair of the Advisory Board, and Andre Palaguine will assume the role of Chair of the Experts Committee.

    Lola Bendana brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role as the Chair of the Advisory Board. She has been an active member of CLIA for many years and has made significant contributions to the language industry in Canada. Lola is widely respected for her commitment to quality and professionalism in translation and interpretation services, and her expertise will be invaluable in guiding CLIA's strategic direction.

    Andre Palaguine, a highly regarded leader in the language industry, has been appointed Chair of the Experts Committee. With a deep understanding of language industry, innovative approach, and strategic thinking, Andre is well-equipped to lead the committee in its mission to advance the field of language services in Canada. His leadership will be pivotal in driving innovation and best practices within our industry.
